How God will Deliver His People During the Great Tribulation

* I had a dream about writing an article which adds detail to the timeline after the 144,000 are called. I’m no scriptorian, so please forgive me if I accidentally cite a prophecy which actually has already been fulfilled by the romans or something.

This part 2 of my series on the end times:

Part 1 – End Times Timeline

Part 3 – The New Jerusalem

In this article I will discuss the many trials that await during the end times and how the 144,000 will deliver the saints from these trials.

Antichrist and Mark of the Beast

The primary risk of the end times is not the destruction of our bodies, but the destruction of our souls via worshiping the antichrist or taking his mark.

According to the scriptures, in the last days there will be a man who pretends to be Christ, – known as the Antichrist, who rules the world and persecutes the saints. He also forces people to take the mark of the beast. The scriptures imply that there is a second man who will cause the people to worship the first man, and that they will have the power to perform miracles and thereby will deceive the people. Revelations 13:15 also discusses how these men give life unto the image of the beast, causing it to speak, and force the people to worship it. People who receive this mark will not be able to go to heaven (Revelations 14:9-11). To me this “image of the beast” sounds a lot like the AI God that Elon Musk keeps talking about. I discuss the Antichrist a lot more in Uncovering Deceptions.

A Brief Summary End Times Difficulties

This section contains a summary of the great difficulties coming to the world. Hopefully the reader will understand from this that nobody will survive the end times without God’s assistance.

Spiritual Corruption of the world:

From the Book of Revelations:

Old Testament

New Testament

Doctrine and Covenants

Here are a few more things:

Some Saints are Martyred, Others are Saved

In the scriptures, we learn that in the end times many Saints will be martyred, while others will miraculously be saved. If you are chosen to be martyred, that doesn’t mean God has forsaken you, rather it means God is giving you the opportunity to gain eternal glory by giving your life for him.

The Antichrist will overcomes the Saints (Revelation 13:7, Daniel 7:21-22)

Saints martyred by the Antichrist will receive Glory (Revelation 2:10, Revelation 6:9–11, Revelation 20:4).

However, a remnant of his saints will be delivered:

Zechariah 13:8–9 – Two thirds of God’s people will die, but God will deliver the remaining third; the tribulations will help to refine these remnants.

Isaiah 10:18–25 – The Lord shall destroy most of his people, but a remnant of them will return to him, of these will he deliver.

Daniel 11:32-35 – Those that understand of the people will instruct many but will still be martyred. Nevertheless, God will help some of his people. God tries his people to refine and purify us.

Jeremiah 30:7-11 – During the tribulation (called Jacob’s trouble), God will deliver his people, though they will not be altogether unpunished. It also mentions “Jacob shall return” during these days – meaning I believe the servants of God (in this case the 144,000) will once more visit the earth.

God Refines his People with Destruction

One of the reasons for the end times destructions is it is the only way God can get his people to remember him.

2 Esdras 16
73 Then shall they be known, who are my chosen; and they shall be tried as the gold in the fire.
74 Hear, O ye my beloved, saith the Lord: behold, the days of trouble are at hand, but I will deliver you from the same.
75 Be ye not afraid neither doubt; for God is your guide,

Zechariah 13:8–9 – (previously mentioned) God brings us through fire to refine us

Isaiah 48:10
Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.

Helaman 11:4–7 – The Lord stirs his people into remembrance of him through famine.

Helaman 12:1-3 – Describes the pride cycle – when the people are righteous, the Lord blesses them. But when they are blessed, they become prideful and depart from the Lord. Then the Lord chastens them with afflictions, so they will return to him. It concludes that most people will not remember the Lord unless they are dealt with tribulations (prosperity leads to pride again emphasized in Helaman 3:33–36 and Helaman 4:11–13).

Hebrews 12:6
For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

The Lord will Prepare a Way to Deliver his People

Despite all the destruction, we receive many promises about how God will deliver his saints through trying times.

Psalm 91 – one of the greatest scriptures ever written – discusses how the Lord will protect his people through adversity.

1 Nephi 22:17-21 – the Lord will prepare a way for his people to be delivered during the great tribulation.

Daniel 12:1 – God shall deliver his people during the end days.

Revelation 12:13-17 – the Woman (who represents the saints) is protected from the Dragon (who represents the coming antichrist / beast system)

Isaiah 43:2
When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

Isaiah 4 – the Lord will protect the righteous ones who are left of Zion

Isaiah 26:20–21 – discusses the Lord’s people hiding themselves in their chamber until the indignation is past – meaning the Lord will hide his people in safe places during the tribulation.

Malachi 3:16–17 – God remembers the righteous and will spare them.

God will protect his people from coming plagues (Revelation 9:3-5, Revelation 16:9-11)

The 144,000 Gather God’s Elect

In my view, the primary way the Lord will deliver his people is to bring them to The New Jerusalem, which will be a safe haven.

I believe the 144,000 will play a role in gathering these people.

Jeremiah 16:16 – The Lord sends forth fishers and hunters (the 144,000) to gather his people.

Isaiah 66:18–20 – The Lord sends “those that escape of them” to gather his elect from all across the world; I believe “those that escape of them” is the 144,000.

Beyond gathering Israel, the 144,000 will also help to preach the Gospel:

Revelations 14:1-6 – The Lord calls the 144,000 and the Gospel is preached to the world. My interpretation is this means the 144,000 preach the gospel to the world.

D&C 77:11 – The 144,000 will bring people to the Gospel.

D&C 133:36–38 – At the end of the world, God will send forth his angels (the 144,000) to preach the gospel.

This scripture sums up my views:

Moses 7:61-62
61 And the day shall come that the earth shall rest, but before that day the heavens shall be darkened, and a veil of darkness shall cover the earth; and the heavens shall shake, and also the earth; and great tribulations shall be among the children of men, but my people will I preserve;
62 And righteousness will I send down out of heaven; and truth will I send forth out of the earth, to bear testimony of mine Only Begotten; his resurrection from the dead; yea, and also the resurrection of all men; and righteousness and truth will I cause to sweep the earth as with a flood, to gather out mine elect from the four quarters of the earth, unto a place which I shall prepare, an Holy City, that my people may gird up their loins, and be looking forth for the time of my coming; for there shall be my tabernacle, and it shall be called Zion, a New Jerusalem.

Where “righteousness” means the 144,000.

Pray to Escape the Tribulation

To be able to escape the coming trials, the Scriptures teach us to pray:

Zephaniah 2:3
Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the Lord’s anger.

Luke 21:36
Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

Doctrine and Covenants 88:83
He that seeketh me early shall find me, and shall not be forsaken.

Joel 2:31-32
31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come.
32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call.
