Dream of American Civil War

I dreamt of attending a lecture during a future American civil war, and I witnessed multiple scenes during the lecture. In the first scene, the lecture hall was full. But in the second scene, it seemed like over half of the students were missing and the professor himself didn’t even show up. On seeing the professor was gone, the remaining then started a presentation showing the pictures of the many students in the class who had died. I also noticed that many of the remaining students were overweight, and so it seemed to me that the more able-bodied students had largely been called to the front line and had perished.

Sadly, I had made friends with a blonde student in the first lecture, as this student and I were both conservative, but he died by the second lecture and so I saw a picture in memorial of him on the opening slides.

I then left the lecture hall and started talking to one of the teachers in a smaller lounge area. Here I was able to ask questions, and learned that their civil war pitted the Virginia and Maryland area against the Texas and Florida area. In my location in the dream, I was in the Virginia and Maryland area, and so the school supported that side of the conflict. The specific names of the two sides were interesting:

  • The name of the Texas and Florida area was: Southern unification of [something] wars and great light and we hate Brigham.
  • The name of the Virginia and Maryland area was: Northern unification of middle-class saints who are in the middle and openness and brotherly kindness.

So let me explain: The name for the Virginia and Maryland area basically tells us that: these people are Christians, but they are the moderate or left leaning Christians (more on this later). In contrast, the name of the Texas and Florida region I think tells us that: these people don’t like Mormons (Brigham Young is associated with Mormons).

Curiously, I also asked about the political positions of the two sides, and I learned that the Texans and Floridians were republican. I didn’t get a straight answer regarding the Virginia and Maryland side however, so I asked what they thought of LGBT and abortion, and the teacher said that her side – which is to say, the Virginia and Maryland side – was in support of both. From this, I conclude that the Virginia people were less conservative and more moderate. And also, both sides were Christian.

Another difference in political views was that the Texans and Floridians were isolationist, while the Virginia and Maryland people were not isolationist. The professor seemed to be passionate about this and tried to convince me why being isolationist is bad. The professor also asked me to pray for the people on the front lines of the conflict, and said that she prayed for everyone across the world.

I also asked them about the other parts of the USA, but it was as if these areas were irrelevant. By this I concluded in the dream that the New England area and the Western half of the USA were doing much worse than the mid-Atlantic and southeast area of the USA.

Discussion

If this civil war happens, that sure seems unfortunate, as both sides of this conflict have problems: the southerners are too arrogant about their religion and therefore cannot tolerate divergent Christian sects who don’t believe in the trinity. In contrast, the Virginian side strays in the opposite direction too far in their support for abortion and LGBT.

I guess this civil war does make sense though: it seems like if the USA is destroyed, that the less Christian areas would be hit the hardest, and those of course are the western states and New England. That would only leave the southeast area, and from there it makes sense how a conflict could arise along these lines.

But these sorts of conflicts are really, really dumb: If you are white, Christian, and not leftist – which both sides were – then you are part of an extremely tiny proportion of the world’s population. For this group to fight amongst itself is a brother war.
