- I have prayed to know whether the book of Mormon is true and have received a witness it is.
- Beyond Joseph Smith, eleven other people have witnessed the existence of the book of Mormon. Despite many of them eventually leaving the church, to their dying day none of them denied the validity of the book of Mormon. Read about it here.
Prophecies of Book of Mormon in Bible
Ezekiel 37:15–17
15 ¶ The word of the Lord came again unto me, saying,
16 Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions:
17 And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.
This scripture is talking about two distinct peoples writing two different books of scripture. The first is the stick of Judah, which wrote the bible, and the second is the stick of Joseph, which wrote the Book of Mormon.
Isaiah 29:11–14
11 And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:
12 And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.
13 ¶ Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
14 Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.
This scripture is discussing the coming forth of the Book of Mormon: the learned will try to translate the book of Mormon but won’t be able to. Therefore, the unlearned (Joseph Smith) will translate it through the power of God. This Marvellous work is the coming forth of the book of Mormon and the restoration of the gospel through it.
John 10:16
16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
The other sheep are Jesus’s disciples in other lands beyond Judea: specifically in the Americas as we see in the Book of Mormon.
Why this matters
The Book of Mormon actually does clarify a lot of doctrine. Specifically, our understanding of the true organization of the universe (heaven, hell, earth, etc.), and the timeline of our souls progression (premortal life, earth life, death, ressurection, judgement, etc.) is pretty limited if only using Bible scriptures. Add modern day revelations and our information becomes much more precise. You can see what I have written about on this topic here:
https://dreamsbay.org/2025/04/13/cosmology/
There are a lot of other doctrines that are clarified in the book of Mormon (the true purpose of our lives on earth and the garden of Eden, baptism for children, the sacrament prayers, conferring the priesthood, the nature of Israel, much covering the topic of salvation by works vs faith, etc.) that you would be confused about if you only read the bible.
Ultimately, true believers should always be hungry for more information from God; if you despise the words of God I can understand why you wouldn’t be excited about more of them, but if you love God’s words, surely you must yearn for even more scriptures.
But there can’t be more Scriptures Beyond the Bible
Why are you even on my website?
If you truly believe there can’t be more scriptures than the Bible, than surely you must also think there can’t be any more prophecies or dreams from God either. So why are you even reading my website about my dreams? In other words, it seems extremely contradictory to think God still gives people dreams and prophecies, but that there aren’t more scriptures. Nevertheless, I will try to address this belief using scriptures:
Origins of this Belief
Revelations 22:19
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
Similar Commands in Old Testament
When Revelations was written, there wasn’t a compiled bible (that came hundreds of years later) – so clearly this scripture was referring only to the book of Revelations itself and not literally all scriptures.
This Phenomenon is not new – in the book of Deuteronomy – we see the same thing: repeated commandments not to add to the word of God (Deuteronomy 4:2, Deuteronomy 12:32). Of course, we have many more books of scripture after Deuteronomy – this commandment specifically only applied to Deuteronomy itself.
Prophecy in Last Days
In Joel we learn that in the last days (right before the second coming), God will pour out his spirit to many allowing them to prophecy. Therefore, no, the great work of prophesying is not finished, and so the scriptures can’t be either. Joel 2:28-29
28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.
Gift of the spirit to Prophecy
Paul teaches that one of the spiritual gifts that we should pursue is the gift of prophecy. If all the prophecies were complete, why would he say this?
1 Corinthians 12:7–11
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
Second scripture about the spiritual gift of prophecy:
1 Corinthians 14:1, 3, 39
1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.
3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.
39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
Do not Despise Prophecies
If prophecies were complete, why was Paul worried about people who despised those who prophecy?1 Thessalonians 5:20–21
20 Despise not prophesyings.
21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
To Some it is Given to Prophecy
Why would Paul tell us that to some it is given to be prophets if prophecy was over and the scriptures were complete?Ephesians 4:11–12
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Scriptures are Incomplete
In the book of John, we learn that the scriptures at the time were incomplete – and that the spirit of Truth in the future would lead people to more truth. Thus, no, the bible is not complete.John 16:12–13
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
God Promises to Never Stop giving us his words
God promises never to stop putting his words in our mouths (prophecy) forever more. So, again, there will always be more from God to write in scriptures.
Isaiah 59:21
21 As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the Lord; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the Lord, from henceforth and for ever.
Ongoing Miracles
In the new testament we get promises that believers will be able to perform miracles. This is so necessary that if a person doesn’t have miracles that is a sign not to believe him. Miracles are obviously worth recording in scriptures, so how can you think scriptures are finished?Mark 16:17–18
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
John 14:12–14
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
God always reveals his secrets to the prophets
For those who still adopt the strange notion that miracles have ceased, lets reflect on these two scriptures.Hebrews 13:8
8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
So if Jesus is always the same, it seems very unlikely he suddenly decided to stop performing works in the world in the 21st century (a time when the world particularly needs him). Now the second scripture:
Amos 3:7
7 Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.
Since God never changes, we know he must still be performing works on the earth. And since he is still performing works on the earth, we know he must still be revealing his secrets to the prophets. Therefore, we know that prophecy has not ceased and that the scriptures are not done.
Trinity
I’ve heard people reject the Book of Mormon because of the views that Mormons have associated with the trinity. I have already addressed that in this article:
So I will cover this only in brief.
Before I say anything though I will preface: I extremely highly supremely doubt your salvation status depends on your beliefs on the trinity. I can’t emphasize this enough: God cares about where your heart is with him, not about your exact views on how the cosmos is structured.
In other words, he wants us to be trying our best to follow the commandments outlined in the scriptures, not be endlessly arguing with each other about the exact nature of God.
Clearing Misconceptions
Mormons still believe that Jesus is our Savior and that it is only through him that we can be saved. However, we view Jesus as the only begotten son of God and the mediator between God and man, so not the same person as God the father.
What do the Scriptures say about the Trinity
Jesus describes himself as the intercessor between man and God, rather than himself being directly God: (1 Timothy 2:5, John 14:6, Romans 8:34, Hebrews 7:25, 1 John 2:1)
Jesus addresses God as if God is a separate person: (John 3:16, John 3:35, John 5:22-23, John 8:17-18, John 14:28, Mark 13:32, Matthew 26:39, 1 John 4:9-10 )
Jesus as the only begotten son of God (not God himself): (John 1:18, John 3:16, John 3:18, 1 John 4:9)
Another point worth mentioning: yes, many of the scriptures discussing how Jesus is one with the Father. However, then the subsequent verses then tell us how Jesus’s disciples can become one with Jesus if they follow his commandments (John 17:20-26, John 14:20) – so being one with God means having your heart aligned with him.
Council of Nicaea
Before Roman Emperor Constantine I convened the Council of Nicaea, not believing in the doctrine of the trinity was actually pretty common among Christians. In fact, Constantine himself (who was of course a Christian) didn’t believe the trinity. So, actually, many early Christians didn’t believe in the Trinity.
Why this view is taught
God saves us if our hearts are in alignment with him, not because we deserve to be saved through works, nor simply by faith (faith without works is dead – James 2:17-20). To align our hearts with God we have to try our best to follow the commandments.
However, modern preachers don’t say this because they don’t want to offend people who don’t follow the commandments – an offended congregation won’t give a preacher money. Therefore, they overly emphasize the faith part (hyper grace), and don’t even tell people the commandments (many aren’t even taught that premarital sex is against biblical teaching).
The fruit is that they teach that having the EXACT RIGHT knowledge of God is what saves us – not our heart posture or attempts to overcome since. Hence, the obsession with the Trinity.
This doctrine takes modern Christianity to dark places. The divorce rate of normal Christians is 51% but for Mormons is 7%. Modern Christians actually have a higher divorce rate than all other religions including atheism. But of course, they don’t worry about this because they think that having exactly the right view of the trinity forgives them for overall being significantly more wicked than even the unbelievers.
If Modern Christians are trying even less to follow the commandments than even non believers, God isn’t going to be like “it is completely fine that you aren’t trying to follow my scriptures whatsoever, because at least you have a super accurate view of the godhead”. God is actually going to say: your having exactly correct views of doctrine was vastly less important than your attempts to follow said doctrine. Since you have made no attempt to follow my doctrine, then you can’t truly call me your Lord ye accursed.
Sorry for the hate here (lol), but Christians have attempted to exclude me from sports teams, speech and debate clubs, robotics clubs, private schools, and even online forums because of my views on the Trinity. I am just so done being lectured about how I am a terrible person for my beliefs when 1) my beliefs are actually more supported by the scriptures; 2) the people lecturing me tend to be making vastly less efforts to follow the scriptures than people who are part of my religion.
God doesn’t tell us much about himself in the scriptures, but gives us a vast amount of commandments
· We don’t truly know the name of God.
· We don’t know (exactly) what his face looks like.
· If the Trinity is true, we still don’t grasp how it actually works (seeing there are no scriptures on the topic).
· If the Trinity is false (meaning Jesus actually is the only begotten son of God rather than the physical body representation of God), then other questions arise, such as the existence of heavenly mother.
· What we will do in heaven.
· We don’t entirely understand God’s relationship with Satan or how the war in heaven started.
· We don’t understand how the Atonement works.
However, we get a huge amount of commandments from God which I have written about here:
In my view, God purposely hasn’t told us about himself because he is worried about the exact type of thing that has already happened: people obsessing over having the exactly correct view of God’s nature to the exclusion of the commandments.
Ironically though, if you still think understanding God’s nature is more important than following the commandments, then you should still be excited about the Book of Mormon because the Book of Mormon greatly increases our knowledge of God beyond what can be found in the Bible.
In summary:
A huge amount of scriptures where Jesus describes God and his relationship with God don’t make sense if we assume Jesus is the same as God. I will go so far as to say that almost all scriptures where Jesus references God don’t make sense if we believe Jesus is the same as God.
Therefore, instead I will align my views with exactly what an extremely large amount of scriptures say: Jesus is not the same as God, because he is the only begotten Son of God and the mediator between God and man.
If so many scriptures don’t make sense if the trinity is true, then I highly doubt God will be offended at me for not believing in the trinity.
It is (theoretically) possible that after all the trinity turns out to be true anyway. But, as said, I extremely highly supremely doubt your salvation status depends on your beliefs on the trinity (though believing that Jesus is your Savior and that it is only through him you are saved is of course important).
